At the start of the market at the beginning of next year, suitable add-on programs - so-called apps - would be available for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Foursquare, said a manager of Blackberry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) in San Jose, California on Tuesday. There, RIM had invited the developers of such apps to report on the progress of Blackberry 10 (BB10).

It was by no means certain that the Internet companies would be loyal to the Blackberrys. The triumph of Apple's iPhone and phones with the Android operating system has the smartphone pioneer hard added. According to data from the industry observer IDC Blackberrys had in the second quarter only a share of 4.8 percent of total deliveries. That was less than half of the previous year's figure. RIM recently wrote high losses. 5000 employees should go in the course of an austerity program.

The fundamentally renewed operating system BlackBerry 10 should bring the turn. After several delays, the first devices for the first quarter of 2013 have been announced. German-born RIM boss Thorsten Heins hopes that existing Blackberry owners will change. According to him, there were 80 million users worldwide. Especially in emerging markets have Blackberrys as a beginner device still many fans. In addition, companies continue to rely on the e-mail service considered particularly secure. (Dpa / tc)
