In the first six months of 2012, around 4.59 million paid e-books were downloaded, according to market research firm media control. That was almost as many as in the whole of 2011. The price of a digital book fell from 9.56 euros on average in 2011 to 8.64 euros in the first half of the year.
In addition to the 4.59 million paid e-book purchases, media control identified around 3.24 million free downloads. However, the share of e-books in the entire book market is still small: It rose to two percent in the first half of 2012, after having been only one percent last year. (Dpa / tc)spoods.de
